Luc Van Lierde enters Ironman Lanzarote 2006
Luc Van Lierde – the 36-year-old triathlete from Brugge, Belgium has made us a visit at Club La Santa. We are like a second home to him and he normally celebrates Christmas here, as he has done it the last 8 years with his wife Katrien and son Andrew! However, this year they choose to celebrate Christmas in Belgium with Andrew’s little sister, Emma.
On 20 December, exactly 5 months ahead of the XV Ironman Lanzarote, next May 20 th 2006, Luc officially registered for our Ironman Lanzarote race… So we are really proud to announce that Luc Van Lierde will finally race here on Lanzarote, in a race and course that are “the toughest of them all”, says Luc.
Even though he planned it various times, Luc has never raced here on Lanzarote…”but this year I will!! Indeed, it will be perfect as part of my training and preparation for the Hawaii Ironman in October”.
Luc had a bad race in Hawaii this year, so he needs to do the Ironman Lanzarote to gain confidence back. He will also compete in a ½ Ironman in California in March and a couple of other smaller races during the summer, to be in perfect shape for Hawaii.
Due to sundry injuries, Luc has not been training 100 % the last 3 years; only about 35 %. He explains that this means his body is still fresh so he hopes to be able to continue on this high level 2 or maybe even 3 more years.
He knows he will end his career within the next years and it makes him really glad that he already now knows what to do after the triathlon-period is over.
His sponsor, the Belgian health insurance company, Partena, has offered him a full time job, which he has agreed to take… then.
But before taking it full time, he still wants to compete in a series of races… and Ironman Lanzarote will definitely be a huge challenge!!
Welcome to Ironman Lanzarote Canarias Triathlon, Luc…!!!
