Ironman Solidario,

Spanish students help children with cancer

The physical education of the San Roque Secundary School of Alcoi (Alicante), following the initiative of the teacher Luís Pulido Robaina, Ironman Lanzarote 2005 finisher and participant into this year’s race, started a Project to help Alcoi kids with cancer and at the meantime promote sports.

The project is called IRONMAN SOLIDARIO and the idea is that the students help others who have to live with cancer. The students buy one of the 226 km as from 1€, and it works well. Whereas none of them knew the word IRONMAN before, now it has become very popular, and everybody wants to know more about it. The students put up a big board with the 226 km where the solidarity level is clearly shown, as they write their name and comment on the km the bought.

“We also have a "kilometer 0" where anyone can collaborate (teachers, parents, maintenance staff, etc)”, says Luís. During the "IRONMAN week" we will have talks and conferences on IRONMAN triathlon, training systems, nutrition, experiences, and we will show the IRONMAN Lanzarote 2005 video.
We will also raffle some souvenirs from Ironman and Lanzarote among the most generous students and supporters of the project (T-shirts, bags, caps, stickers, wristbands)

Luís lives in Alcoi but was born in the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria) and he confirms that all collected money will go to the Spanish Association Against Cancer of Alcoi, which bank account number is:

2090 / 1100 / 81 / 0040378817.

¡THANK YOU, Luís and all your students… hopefully other schools will copy the idea!

The Toughest Ironman in the World!
