The Spanish triathletes’ community has lost one of its big members…

Daniel Guzmán Álvarez, triathlete of only 24 years old, better known as PEGASO(*), left this world last Friday, 30th of March, after a long struggle against cancer.

In Lanzarote, we expected to see him in May, as he had promised to accompany his friend Moisés Herrezuelo, who he was training, to support him at his first Ironman race.
Pegaso will be with his friend, through the messages he left him, thanks to all the good advice and souvenirs that will accompany Moisés forever.

The whole Spanish sports community, and especially the triathlon one is very affected by this sad happening.

Messages have been sent and published all over the internet, on triathlon websites, on the biggest sports newspaper Marca, all messages remembering him with love and admiration, not only for his sports performances but also the human ones.  Everybody remembers how much Pegaso loved the triathlon sport, how he will keep giving strength to all who knew him and even many who did not get to know him personally; all overwhelmed by sadness and sorrow, we will remember him forever: the way he fought against the illness, his physical and mental strength, his smile, humour and energy made him an example to follow.

They - and we - wish him all the best, wherever he be now, and will remember him as a great person within competition, and in normal life. He will remain part of our lives and those of many people, we will remember him in the triathlon races, for his love of this sport, for his love of his family, friends…

We talked to Iván Raña who described him as “the person with most will and motivation that I have ever seen in triathlon, always fighting… Outside the sport, he has always been a joyful guy, not surprising he had so many friends. He has left a huge void…

Dani will live in our hearts forever, we will miss him, but he will also remain the training and race companion of many athletes… opening his wings, as Pegaso.

All our condolences to the family of PEGASO, Dani

Farewell, Pegaso
Farewell, Champion
