… and sign up for Ironman Lanzarote 2006!
This year’s Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, took place last Saturday, 15 th October 2005 and it was as exciting as in previous years.
The winner was the 27 years old Faris Al-Sultan from Germany in the incredible time of 8:14:17 hours. He won in front of Cameron Brown from New Zealand (8:19:36) and Peter Reid from Canada (8:20:04).
As to the women, Natascha Badmann (38) from Switzerland did it again! Her time was 9:09:30, whereas second Michellie Jones and third Kate Major, both from the USA took 9:11:51 and 9:12:39 respectively.
Faris Al-Sultan is also well known at Club La Santa as he did his very first Ironman here on Lanzarote only 19 years old, i.e. back in 1997 when it took him 10:33:11. After this great Ironman career start, he also participated in the Ironman Lanzarote in 1998 and 1999, ever improving his results.
Many other athletes that competed in Kona this weekend got their slots in this year’s Ironman Lanzarote as we provide 60 slots in total for our participants.
Francisco Pontano Roldan (ARG) was one of them, and the most successful one: he managed a fantastic 9 th place in this Ironman Hawaii World Championship 2005. Other successful participants were Stefan Riesen (16 th PRO), Gerrit Schellens (26 th PRO) and Ain-Alar Juhanson (34 th PRO)
Also Lanzarotean Gregorio Cáceres Morales from Yaiza performed greatly, completing the race in 9:40:49, i.e. 35 th in his age group.
German Andrea Brede finished her first Kona race in a very satisfactorily position and time: after being second here in May and a very hard training camp at Club La Santa just before the Ironman Hawaii, she finished the World Championship race in 9:58:35 hours and became 21 st!! Our female race winner Virginia Berasategui (ESP) did better than last year, when she had to withdraw due to back-pain; this year she did finish, 37 th in 10:31:59.
Congratulations to all the triathletes who finished the Ford Ironman Hawaii World Championship … including our Ironman Lanzarote Race Manager, Kenneth Gasque, for whom it was his fourth participation after 1985, 1987 and 1989!
Many triathletes use our Ironman Lanzarote, to prepare in optimal conditions and check out their performance and capacities; indeed, our Ironman is described by many as the toughest Ironman triathlon race course in the world.
Club La Santa is also ideal for training camps all year round, and is especially used for the final training camps before Kona…
You can sign up for Ironman Lanzarote 2006 now!
Only 1000 will get the chance to participate… and registration before the end of 2005 will save you some entry fee…
