Successful edition of the Ironkids 2005
The Ironkids 2005 was divided over 3 days with three aquathlons for children participating in the age of 5 – 15 years old. There were different age groups and different distances for these groups. Varying from 50 meter swimming and 500 meter running till 200 meter swimming and 2500 meter running for the eldest.
The Ironkids was organised as one of the events parallel to the “Ironman Lanzarote 2005” and consists of three tests that started on Sunday the 8th of May.
The Insular Service of Sports of the city Hall of Lanzarote, organized another year the “Ironkids Championships”, a circuit that intends to promote the triathlon among the youngest, which is divided over three tests that took place in different municipalities of the Island, and that is constituted like one of the parallel acts organized around the “Ironman Lanzarote 2005”.
The youths interested were able to participate in any of the three tests organized.
The first one of these three aquathlons took place on Sunday the 8th of May at 10:00 in the lagoon of Club La Santa, Tinajo. 29 children in 9 different age groups succeeded in finishing the race.
A week after on the 14th of May the second Ironkids-aquathlon took place in Costa Teguise on the beach Las Cucharas. This test was a little tougher for the participants because of the big wind there was on this day. Nevertheless it seemed the participants really enjoyed it.
The third and last aquathlon of this year’s edition of the Ironkids took place in Puerto del Carmen the day before the real Ironman Lanzarote 2005. This one counted the most participants of the three. The race started around 18.00 pm at the beach of Puerto del Carmen. All children and their parents were really enthusiastic, especially because they came in through the finish line where the next day their real examples, the Ironman-pro’s would pass.
We hope all the children enjoyed participating and that even more children on Lanzarote were triggered to start doing triathlon and hope they will participate in next year’s edition of the Ironkids.
