It was down from Mirador del Rio when at 90km/h my backtire blew up.

Chances are one to a million to come into such a situation…like in Lotto – belive me I’d like more to have this luck :-)

The difficulty was to brake at this speed with one brake and not to bail.
Finally I did not crash. Thank good and the angels from Lanzarote - I’m fine.
But my back wheel was totally damaged.
The carbon disk was broken apart.

So I stood there and thought to myself: I won!!!!

I won another expensive experience how it does not work to finish top ten at pro level. :-)

And I did well - at this time I was right arround Nils Goerke, Martin Leumann, Gerit Schellens, Luc….

Why expensive…
First the fear factor…

Then:
Accomodation € 500.-
Flight € 350.-
Broken disc € 1390.-
Blown tire € 100.-
Minus 10 days from my holiday account at the office….

Though expensive what do you think….

Well and there is this other spot I have to pay at IM Zürich…

At least I can show if I am able to hold against Gerit ;-)

Now why thank you?

Well after a while walking down to the gas station in Arieta, out of a sudden a car drove besides me and stopped.

Out of the window poped a very pretty spanisch Girl: Do you need help? (Could you support me with her address? I was to shy to ask…)

Can you imagine how glad I was? I already saw me walking back to the transition area – as in the video from Hawaii this guy with the broken wheel…

The only difference would have been that my walk would have taken me about 65k…a bit too long.

So I stepped inside the car and was driven direct in front of my hotel!!!!

What a service!

Thank you Kenneth for this organisation.
Take care and maybe to the next year.

Will

P.S. pictures have been taken before my “experience” ;-)
