Q: Do I have to qualify to participate in Ironman Canarias Lanzarote?
A: No, you just have to be very fit and be looking for the ultimate challenge. Do not wait too long - sign up now!
Q: How do I enter the Ironman Canarias Lanzarote?
A: You can sign up online on www.ironmanlanzarote.com or contact the Events Office at Club La Santa for a race folder incl. an entry form. Only fully completed entries with payment are accepted. Entries close May 1st 2007 or before if limit is reached.
Q: Do I have to have a triathlon license in order to race?
A: Yes, All participants must bring a license issued by his/her national triathlon federation to show at registration. If you do not have one you can buy a Spanish one-day license upon registration, for 10€. NOBODY may race without.
Q: Weather forecast for race day?
A: In the morning it will probably be around 22ºC (70ºF). The temperature will most likely increase during the day to 28-30ºC (90ºF) and heavy wind may occur.
Q: What are the time limits at Ironman Canarias Lanzarote?
A:
Swim: 2hrs 20min.
Swim - bike: 10hrs 30min.
Swim - bike - run 17hrs. 00min.
The race starts at 07.00 am and closes officially at 12.00 pm.
Q: Are Neoprene suits allowed?
A: YES, Neoprene suits are allowed at Ironman Canarias Lanzarote Triathlon
Q: What is the water temperature on race day in May?
A: The temperature of the water will be around 20 - 21º C (68-69ºF)
Q: How is the swim start organized?
A: Ironman Lanzarote 2007 start procedure:
We will have ONE START, so all athletes will have the same start time.
We will divide the beach in 3 sections.
In front of the beach the PRO athletes.
Behind the GREEN Club La Santa start tower ONLY swimmers who expect their swimming time to be UNDER 65 minutes.
Behind the YELLOW Club La Santa start tower all other swimmers who would like to have a safer and quieter swim start.
Select the correct swim group to suit your pace.
Q: Do you have to leave the water during the swim?
A: Yes, there is a 20 meter sprint on the beach passing the timing box after the first lap before starting the second lap.
Q: Will there be any buses from Club La Santa to Puerto del Carmen and back to Club La Santa on race day?
A: Yes, there will be buses in both directions. These will be free for participating athletes. From Club La Santa to Puerto del Carmen, athletes will need to book their seat in advance. The way back will be a shuttle service without booking (the time will depend on your finishing time)
Q: Are disk wheels allowed?
A: Yes, but because of the wind these are not recommended.
Q: Is there any official swim training on the course?
A: Yes, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning prior to the race busses will leave from Club La Santa to Puerto del Carmen, so triathletes can train on the race course.
Q: Is it possible to try out the bike course before the race?
A: Yes, you can find the map on our webpage otherwise contact the Events Office/ Ironman Headquarters. About a week before the race small Ironman signs will be put out around the course, so you can easily find your way.
Q: What gearing do you recommend?
A: We advise you to bring the following gearing: back: 13-24, front: 52-39, as the course is very hilly.
Q: Is there any bike service available before and on race day?
A: Yes, the local bike shop Ciclomania will be in the transition zone, ready to help out before the bike check-in and on the bike course.
Q: What is the altitude of the bike course?
A: We do not call it "The Toughest Ironman in the World" for nothing. It is a one-lap course with an altitude of approx 2550 m above sea level.
Q: What food and drinks will be available on the bike course?
A: On the bike course we have 12 aid stations in total with water, Coca Cola, Drinks and Fruits (the Powerbar bars will be handed in in the welcome bag, to assure that all athletes have their own bars). One of the stations only contains water and 1 is a special feed station, where you get your own drinks/ food in a special feedbag, you have checked-in on race morning.

Q: Is there a special feed station on the run course?
A: Yes, but ONLY for special drinks or food and you do not get a bag. The drinks or food has to be checked-in on race morning.

Q: When and where will the Pasta Party and the Awards Ceremony take place?
A: The Pasta party is on the Thursday before the race at Club La Santa, Restaurant Atlantico.
Friends and family can join, they just buy a ticket at the entrance.
The Awards Ceremony and dinner will take place Sunday evening (place to be confirmed).
Q: What are the rules concerning age groups allocations?
A: It is the age on race day that counts when we allocate age groups. This means, it is your age on May 19th 2007 determines your age group. However, if you qualify for Hawaii at our race in for example age group 30-34 and you turn 35 after qualifying and prior to racing in Hawaii you will change age group to 35-39, as the rule is you race in the age group of your actual age on the day of the event
Q: How many Hawaii slots do you have?
A: 60! 10 slots are allocated the pros and the remaining 50 are distributed into the different age groups, according to the number of participants, guaranteeing always at least one slot in each age group.
Q: What if I qualify for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii, what do I have to do?
A: You have to be present at the Hawaii registration Sunday morning between 10.00-12.00a.m. at Club La Santa. You must bring the entry fee in cash US$ or equivalent in Euro.
Q: Where is the finish line and the finish line stands?
A: In Puerto del Carmen, at approx. 25K from Club La Santa.
Q: What is the "Athletes Lounge"?
A: This is a corner inside the Information Centre where you can sit and rest, whilst meeting other athletes, watch videos on other Ironman races, or previous editions of the Lanzarote race. You get free coffee, the or soft drinks.
Q: Is there an official event hotel (Race Hotel)?
A: Yes. Club La Santa is the official hotel. Here are the race headquarters. The whole resort, which is considered a paradise for triathletes all year round is completely involved into the Ironman. It is the place to be. If you want to know more, go and have a look at www.clublasanta.com
Q: Re the age group, does the year of birth count, or the actual age on the day of the race?
A: The Anglo Saxon system is used for Ironman races: the athlete´s age on race day is the one used for age group allocation.
Q: How do I determine whether I should race as an age grouper or pro?
A: On your entry form you must declare your status and race in that division. Pros must hold a valid Pro card or a letter from their country's federation. A copy must be submitted with the entry form.
Q: What prize money do you have?
A: Total prize money - US$ 50.000. The first 10 men and female finishers in the professional division will receive prize money provided they come within +10% of the finishing time of the second place finisher.
It will be paid after publication of the doping results and deduction of local tax and only after receipt of a copy of the athlete's passport and bank details. Only pro athletes are entitled to prize money.

Q: What timing system do you use?
A: The Ironman Canarias Lanzarote uses the ChampionChip system. All participants will receive a ChampionChip and a coloured ankle band. The ChampionChip and the ankle band must be attached to the ankle and are used for timing.
